when filling the water tank before a trip, the water tank seemed to never flush out. We have the same dreadfull odor and taste that lots of us have at one time or another.

THe boat i bought sat idle for a long long time so i planned on using small clorine water treatment tablets to try and shock the tank.

any other suggestions?

Chuck:

Just follow Peggie's process for "shocking" the entire water system. You need to treat it for 8-24 hrs and then flush it.

You may want to consider replacing the lines from the tank too. We never had any problem with our tank, but we always used the water within a couple of weeks after filling it.

Recommissioning the system should solve the problem, Chuck

Do a search for "fresh water maintenance" or "recommission fresh water" to find directions I've posted a zillion times.

Fresh water systems should be recommissioned annually, as a regular part of spring recommissioning. When done according to directions, your water should taste and smell at least as good as what comes out of faucets on land. If that doesn't suit you, install faucet filters. Recommissioning also gets rid of the taste/smell of antifreeze.

Peggy's Book

Chuck
I have Peggy's book and reference it many times, a great book to have. I also have an H31-84. Every spring I use the method in the book to re-commission my water system. Do replace all your tank lines if they have not been done. Fresh water fill inlet, Outlet, and vent hose. The vent is hard to get to. I also had to re-seal my outlet hose so I took the top of the tank off and "scrubbed" the inside of the tank. That got some build up off the side and bottom of the tank.
