Joanie, I'm not sure what you mean by a "filter"
Filters don't fill up, water just passes through 'em (at least that's true of every filter I've ever seen). So I wonder if a previous owner has installed a small accumulator in the wrong place--behind the pump instead of after it. Whatever it is, it's obviously screwing up your water flow.I think you can handle this yourself. First, I'd try removing it altogether to see what kind of water pressure you get...then I'd check it against filters and accumulators in the boating catalogs to figure out just what it is--whether it's a filter or an accumulator. If you can't find it there, post the brand/model here...somebody will know what it is. If it is a filter, it's the wrong filter...if it's an accumulator, it should be installed immediately AFTER the pump. Unless your local water supply (direct from the faucet on the dock) smells or tastes unpleasant, you really don't need a filter...just recommission your system according to the directions in the "Fresh Water Maintenance" article in the HM forum Reference Library once or twice a year...put a filter on the galley faucet if you still feel the water needs improvement. As for how your plumbing is connected...if it's hard pipe, the connections are prob'ly stuck together with pvc cement...but if it's hose, they're only clamped on and should be easy to remove and put back.Let me know what you find.
