Water stained cabin sole

Please, My mast leaked until I drilled some drain holes in base, and stained my floor. Med-brown to dark-brown. Since the floors are veneer, I think, sanding is probably not a good idea. OOOPS !! Looks like plywood !?!! : o Any suggestions on how to remove/lighten stain & refinish ? Much Thanx. Fair Winds..... MRF

Likely on sanding will work but maybe you'll be lucky and a wipe with MEK or acetone. Prior to sanding maybe take it to a professional furniture refinisher?

Having experienced a similar problem, I found this article on line. It is excellent and full of ideas and techniques. His site has a bright works page where he discusses varnishes. I used interlux schooner gold and the 333 reducer with excellent results.Dan
