The water pump on my Yanmar 2GMF drips about one drop a minute. I thought it was a hose leaking, but when I removed the pump to replace the impeller, I noticed it was driping from a "weep" hole in the underside of the pump. Is this drip normal?

Call your mechanic

Bob, I don't claim to be a mechanic, gas or diesel, but my mechanic, and the shop manual for my car, tell me that when you see fluid coming out of the water pump weep hole, its telling the pump is shot. I would be very worried about that leak. Jim Kolstoe

It is normal..

for a water pump with a worn out seal. It is not going to blow up or anything but you should replace it. It will get progresivly worse and the shaft may even break off if you continue to operate it in that condition.

New pump

Bob: I agree that you need a new pump. I am curious though, do you have a stock alternator or a high output unit.

Water pump leak.

www.torresen.com will have a rebuild kit for your water pump. Replacing the entire pump is a much more expensive proposition!

I have a stock altenator, why do you ask? The water pump I'm talking about is the fresh water pump that is run on it's own belt.
