Assuming raw water pump (you didn't say): Usually means nothing. As long as the faceplate is tight, it's just seawater wicking through the gasket. Clean it up and keep an eye on it and your tempt gauge.
Remove the cover. Clean the surfaces. Apply ample lanocoat to cleaned surfaces and reinstall the cover. The dried up seasalt indicates water is leaking out. This means air might be sucked in and pump will not prime causing no water circulation and high engine temperature.
