I have a Yanmar 2GM20F. Yesterday I noticed dripping from the weep hole in the seawater pump. I replaced the impeller last fall, but didn't notice any dripping then. I'm getting good water flow out the exhaust and the temp seems ok. Yesterday was the first time I started the engine since fall. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. BTW, it started easily on the first try!

weep hole

the shaft seal in your water pump has failed. that's what the weep hole is for. remove the water pump (four bolts i belive)and then the impeller. you will have to find a press to push the shaft out and then you can replace the seal and bearing.

And after you press it,

call you Yanmar dealer and order a new pump. Sorry Gary but these pumps are serviceable by removing internal snap rings.

Damage?

As long as I keep an eye on the water discharge from the exhaust, will I damage anything if I use the boat a time or two before repairs?

Harry, I'm (#2) going by memory here.

I think the only thing bad that happens is that the bearings get wet. That would do them no good, in the long run. But the rebuild kit comes with new ones. Something as important as your raw water pump is no place to scrimp on repair parts. For that reason alone I don't think the seal is available separately.
