I have a jabsco pump, model#2760-0000 with a 3.7 gallon per minute rating, which pumps water thru the heat exchanger and into the exhaust pipe the pump failed and I question if 3.7 pump is the correct size or type. Has anyone modified or upgraded the type of pump or size, and obtained more reliabilty. Thank you in advance for any information recieved Al

H37C pump size.

Hi Al, Is that the belt-driven pump mounted below the alternator? I think mine is the same and last year I overheated when the impeller seized. I had replaced the impeller in the interal pump and didn't even know about an external pump. Now I carry a couple of spares. How do you know the gpm rating? If its on the pump I can check this week. My maintenance manual has a page for a 2760-0001 but I don't know if that is what I have. That page shows: 2.6 gpm @ 1160 rpm, 3.9 @ 1750, and 4.6 @ 2100. I just know that I see plenty of water coming out the exhaust and the motor runs cool, too cool. I bought a new thermostat but haven't installed it yet.

Jabsco Pump

If its like mine, the Jabsco pump is used for the sea water cooling of the Sendure Heat exchanger, and the Yanmar pump is used for the fresh water cooling. Since the engine is essentially a salt water cooled engine with the Sendure conversion, both the Jabsco pump and the Yanmar pump have the same gpm rating. In fact, they both use identical impellors, and both have the same pulley ratios. I have thought about increasing the Jabsco pump to the next size up, but am not sure of the effect that would have on the exhaust system, since the sea water is used to cool the exhaust.
