New to this forum and thanks for reading my post. Our catalina 30 tall ship has just come out of winter storage and we are having difficulty purging the air from the water. In other words, the water only spurts out at intervals. You can hear that water has air in it. Water tank is full. And we have cleaned all of it out. It does need a new water filter, we believe. Any ideas how to purge this air from our water would be greatly appreciated. My husband and i have worked on it to no avail for several weekends. thanks so much!

disconnect the inlet side of the pressure pump and water should flow out, reconnect it if flow is good. Disconnect the output of said pump and turn it on. If it still acts erratic you have a bad pump. I replaced ours with an RV pump, we still never use it opting for the foot pump as it wastes less water and you can work it hands free.

In addition to The Garbone, check for leaks before the pump which may allow air into the pump.

Still no solution ? ............... open every hot and cold water outlet on board at the same time in order to purge any air from the system.

Still no solution ? .................. hold your finger over the end of a faucet (without an aerator) to see if the pump will develop pressure. If you have pressure, the pump is good.

Still no solution ? ............... possibly consider an exorcism  ! ! ! !

Fellowship,

We have a 1995 Cat 30 and have exactly the same problem. I replaced the pump this spring here in Detroit area, but same problem. I would pull my hair out if I had any left. I have opened every faucet, but have not tried pulling the inlet hose yet to see if we can get all the air out. Also, my primary sink faucet keeps spitting air and water even after I cut the power on the pump. What the heck is going on?

My 1994 C30 has two water tanks. The first time I used the system I filled the aft tank only and tried the pump. It spit water and air continually until I realized that the valve for the forward tank was open. The pump would alternately suck water out of the aft tank and air out of the forward tank. I closed the valve to the forward tank and got water only.

You may find the hose between the tank and pump is cracked or split.
