Water pump gets hot!

Got a C30 MKI with 5411 Engine. While chasing down lots of demons in my engine - pretty much all fixed, we noticed that the water pump gets really hot to the touch. The engine temp is okay. The water flow good through all the hoses. Outflow is good through exhaust. So, it seems to function, but it's super hot to the touch. My friend also has a C30 same pump and his doesn't get warm.
Anyone ever notice a similar issue? Is it a problem?

Yes, I had the same problem. I'm pretty sure you are referring to the raw water pump, since you mentioned outflow from the exhaust. My pump got so hot, it burned all the paint off the body of the pump, and rust quickly formed there. Turned out that the bearings had seized. I hadn't noticed any unusual noises or other problems, but when I went to change out the impeller one day, the shaft seemed loose, and the inside of the pump looked, well, icky.
