water pump/exhaust tell tale...

The boat is a 78 30' Cherubini (of course).

The engine is a 2gmf.

The exhaust is below the waterline at the stern of the boat. Isn't there supposed to be some sort of 'telltale' that spurts water to show that the raw water pump is functional?

I see no method of connecting said 'telltale'.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks,

Rich.

Our Hunter 31 also had the exhaust below the water line. You can normally hear the difference when you start the engine if there is no water flowing. There is a hollow sound. You can actually test this by turning the water off before you start and then turn the water on.

On my 79 H30C the exhaust tru hull is on the starboard side, aft. The fitting rests above the waterline when not underway and you can see the water splashing out and hitting the surface of the water. Verifying the presence of water exiting the fitting is a mandatory check after starting the engine on my boat. I installed a 2GMF last year when my YSM12 (The original engine on our boats) gave up. I'm wondering if your boat's PO moved the exhaust tru hull after his engine change out?

GG,

Many thanks for that info. That is exactly what I have on my boat, the very same setup.

I feel much better now, :)

Rich.
