I just bought a Hunter 34' 1985 and not to familiar with the plumbing system. My water tank run out of water and after adding water to the tank, the pump won't stop even though the faucets are closed. When opened very little water is coming through the faucets. I also noticed something,.. before the tank went empty I could see some water inside a sort of see through little cup on the left side of the pump but now this cup is empty and the tanks are full ? The pump works continuously but no water is travelling through the system. Is there an air leak somewhere, how to detect it ? If so, how come it was working fine before until the tank was empty ? Does the system has to be primed every time water is added to the tanks ? How to prime it ? Would appreciate any help/comments/suggestions.

Water pressure

Marcio, The see thru bowl should contain a small screen for pre filtering. Look closely and you'll see that it is designed to twist apart. Chances are the screen is just gunked up and as you ran the tank dry you might have picked up some of the sediment at the bottom of all tanks. Clean and replace. If it's missing, West Marine, or a shop that sells Shurflo pumps can get a replacement. After you clean the screen and before you start rebuilding/replacing the pump try a little suction to prime the pump. I've been known to disconnect the hose before it enters the accumulator tank and suck a little air. It is supposed to be self priming, but we all need a little help some times. PS. If the screen is missing, go ahead and prime the pump to see if you can get it working properly but replace the screen soon.

Suck

Marcio, Andy is right. Just open a faucet and suck on it a little with the pump on. This should prime the system immediately. Also see the archives as this arises fairly frequently

34 water

34 water tanks if full do not need priming, the tanks are set higher than the pump. if the tanks are dry the pump will keep running until it gets water or you shut off the breaker. there is a switch valve for port and stern tanks ,you may need to switch tanks. hope this helps ken
