Water lock (muffler) in/out connections H31

Hi. Can anyone check his H31 boat (mine is H31 1985) and tell me which one is the input or output connections for the built-in water lock (muffler)? I took the hoses apart and I am not sure now. Is the short hose going to the throughull, connects to the front or rear connection of the water lock? Thanks.

The one closest to hot water heater is in the one close to fuel tank is out

Thanks. While I am at it, is there a way to test the unit? I know it supposed to allow water/exhaust flow in one direction only.
If it leaks -- salt water will be presnent in the bilge. Right?
I did not see any way to get to the unit as it is part of the hull.

Yes and will have soot/oil in it. No way to fix if it leaks. I just attached a new one on top.
