Water Leaks into my H22

With my boat on a trailer in the back yard this winter, I decided to rebed the hardware on deck. I've rebedded everthing except the halyard wench and cleats that are mounted on the top of the cabin. There is no ready access to the in cabin side and I am concerned these are through bolted with nuts and washers. I still have water present on the port and starboard birth cushions. Any ideas? Thanks, Ed Gallagher "Shallow Entry"

Wench

I wonder is that a special option? I didn't get a "wench" to haul my halyards. Any pictures? Seriously.. have you tried forceing water through seams gaps etc with a hose or high pressure wash at a self serve car wash? It helped me find a nasty little pin hole in the bottom of my transom. Good luck.

Check the mast step

I too had water running in soaking the berth cushions and after much work with the hose I found that it was coming in at the mast. It comes in and runs along the inerior headliner and drip down the sides, soaking the cushions. You may have the same problem.

H22 leaks

Ed, When I bought my H22 a local dealer told me he had a couple of them sink on him a few years ago. Said to check the cockpit drain piping and scupper tubes. I had been trying to figure out where the 1" of water in the bilge came from and found that the rubber cuffs of the cockpit drain hose were in fact leaking. Not a lot, but enough that if someone plugged the drain outlet below the transom and you poured water down the drain you would find the some dripping from the hoses. I replaced the hoses, arranged them so as to drain fully (I was warned that they hold water and it can freeze and split the hoses in winter)and double clamped them. Aslo checked the integrity of the small scupper hoses under the main deck. I have not had a drop of water in the bilge since doing that work in May of 1999, when I bought the boat. Regards, Michael F. "MARY D"

Wench

The halyard wench and cleat should not be through bolted. There should be an aluminum plate encapsulated in the fiberglass (I asked the hunter rep a while back) You can test the area by using a 1/16" drill bit, drill in next to the winch and see if it brings up aluminum. I have the same leak I am tracing. I need to rebed most of my topside.
