I need Help. I have a 1991 Hunter legend 35.5. Here's the problem. The back two lazarettes where the fuel tank is located, water appears to be coming in from under the fuel Tank.{ 2 to 3 inches of water comes in, in about 3 hours time. pump it and it starts all over again} I have checked the thru hulls and shore water connections and water lines in that area No leaks. Is it possible for water to come in through a cracked rudder tube? Is there a fix other than cutting an opening in the the sugar scoop, removing fuel tank, lift up the fuel tank platform and remove the foam from under the platform?

I have no knowledge of H35.5 but in the 34's some have cockpit drains that were not well sealed to the hull and when you have a heavy heel that puts the drain below water line you get some incursion of water. You might want to check the drains when you are on a heel.

I assume that your 35.5 is the same setup as the 35. There is a caulked joint where the deck/hull joint is glued together. Have you inspected that. You may want to check that out. If it suspect, you should dig out the old caulking and find a suitable product to re-caulk it.

If it is the rudder tube, that should be easy to determine if you are getting that much water so quickly.

Does this problem exist when you are docked as well as out sailing?

This leak happens at dock and sailing. The water level never gets any higher than the out side water level. The water does not go forward to the battery compartment. everything forward of the bulk head where the the rudder post comes up through stays dry. I checked the sealant between the hull and deck on the sugar scoop and it is intact.
