Water leak ...

I just purchased a 2001 380 and have discovered a hot water leak. Just above the center of the keel, under the floor panel, is a cross beam in the hull that is solid on the top and sides, but open on the bottom. The hot water is entering the bilge from the bottom of the cross beam. Port side only. I’ve checked all of the visible fittings under the flooring and at the various faucet attachments and all appear to be fine. This ONLY happens when the water heater has run long enough to reach full temp. Help? Thank you, Jeff

Check the Pressure Relief Valve

...on the hot water heater. I had that same problem twice. And, you will need to order a replacement; they are not the same thread size as household units. Good luck.

A couple of other areas to check....

are: A split water line that opens up a bit when the line heats up. I finally tracked down a similar leak by placing paper towels under the lines. Second, lift the floor board under the setee table and look into the depressed area boardered by the stringers. There is a drain hole that allows any water to drain into the bilge by way of the route you described. However, the drain hole, many times, is about 1/2 inch to 1 inch above the floor. This allows water to accumulate until it builds up enough to spill into the drain hole, or until the boat is tipped by healing or stepping aboard. Also, I "dremeled" my drain hole so it is now flush because I didn't want water to accumulate and stagnate. Good luck ......... Jeff

Water Leak

To get to the hot water heater, you will need to remove about 25 screws from the seat above the heater. It is not hard with a battery operated screw driver, but it takes some time. You need to do this once anyway so that you will learn where the reset button is on the heater (it is hidden from plain site). You can obtain a hot water manual at 562-699-7997 (Seaward Products?)if you do not have one. It is important to have these manuals. You have a 6 gallon, Model 600. The reset button is important since it will trip the heater off sometimes if you run the engine at high temps for a long time which happened to me. Luckily, the admiral (my wife) did not need to take a shower before the problem was solved. Also, to change the valve as suggested by another person, you will have to access this panel and order the part from Seaward. You will also be able to heat your water up from the dock or engine and see from where it is leaking. Good luck!
