We recently purchased a 1981 Daysailor as a first boat. The self-bailor was clogged but some work with a thin wire took care of it. The frist time or two in the water all seemed ok. After a trailor ride from NJ to a New Hampshire lake it started to take on water from the self-bailor. We applied sealant around the underneath to no avail. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bailer closing correctly?
I had to replace my self-bailer this spring. Once I had taken my old one out, I found it wasn't closing correctly. The bottom was hitting the edge, and so it was never really closing. I bought a new one for about $60 and sealed it well, top and bottom. It hasn't leaked since. The ironic thing is I only needed it to let out the water it was leaking in
