Water leak

I have a Hunter 290, and there is lake water coming aboard trough a stringer that runs across the hull, just in front of the engine. The space is about 4" by 3" and is wide as the hull at that point. The water then drains into the bilge. We have checked all the through hull fittings and the stuffing box and that is not the problem.

Where is the water coming from and how do I fix the leak.

Have you been able to tell when it leaks is it always or under power.
I had a 2001 290 that leaked at the rear stern rub rail when under power that it pushed down the stern into the water and it would leak and than that water would travel all over the rear bed.
You need to start looking all over to try and find where it could be coming,it will not be easy finding the leak,water travels under different parts of the inner parts of the hull.

Thanks for your suggestions. This leaking occures while in the slip. Any other suggestions.?

Assuming it is lake water and not rain water, other possibilities include raw water intake hoses/fittings and strut attachment point.

Other non-rainwater sources - fresh/potable water lines and fittings in the head or sink area, even icebox drain line leaks. Do you have a stern shower? Lines & fittings for it are possible sources as well.

are you sure its not coming from your packing?

Clean up the area, dry, then dust it with talc/baby powder- you should find our where it is getting in.
