I just purchased a 1983 O'day 25 with a center board. I am getting water in the cabin. The water appears to be entering at the point where the shroud attaches to the chain plate on both the starboard and port side. Any suggestions on how to repair this and prevent the water penteration.

Remove metal face plate around shroud tang from deck. Scrape out old caulk and then apply new. Be sure to apply down chainplate as far as you can. Then screw pace plate back down.

Like the man said, the easiest way out of it is to re-caulk it, but I ran into the same problems on my 1986 O'Day 222 when I replaced the chain plates on my boat with O'Day 25 chain plates. What I did was have a marine fabricator make up some stainless steel covers to go over my chain plates, and he welded them in place. Each plate has four bolts that go through the deck, along with backup plates on the inside. I had beefed up my bulkhead with oak boards which are in turn bolted to the settees on both sides of the cabin. Having the needed clearance for the nuts, bolts, and back up plates in the V birth section of the bulkhead has to be taken into consideration. I have stronger chain plates on my boat now, and no more leaks. I would try re caulking the chain plates and avoid using any type of hull cleaners on your deck that can eat out caulking. Some household cleansers contain Oxalic Acid that will eat out caulking. I learned this the hard way years ago when I had to remove my rub rail and re caulk it. Now I use soap and water on my deck and nothing else.

Joe, was your overhead liner always covered with cloth, or did you add that, that looks pretty good.
also, did you ever say what type of adhesive you used for that?
thanks

Ahoy there, Keith!
My boat came through with the rug head liner. I have no idea what they used for an adhesive. Rudy could probably tell you. The manufacturer gave me a couple of feet of extra fabric when I got my boat. I still have it down my cellar.
