Water Intrusion in 25.5

Hey 25.5 owners. I would like to know if anyone has had a problem with leaks. Leaks that would require a automatic bilge pump on the 25.5. I bought a 84' 25.5 this fall. I see no signs of any water intrusion and the bilges look pristine but for the one right under the stairs. This bilge has marks where water sat the was around 1/2" in depth. I'm guessing this was from splash from the cockpit or spillage from the galley. This 25.5 is a outboard model.

Check Ice Box.......

Brad, I think the ice box drains to the bilge. Check it out. Other than that I have not had any water in the bilge and I have had the boat since '84. Enjoy your H25.5. It is a nice one. s/v rainnek mayona

Water Leak-H25

We sail a 1978 H25.Had a similar problem with water in the bilge, even with no use and no rain. Finally found a small hole in the underside of the cockpit drain hose where it bends before continuing out through the transom. Each time it rained or each time we washed the boat, some of the water was leaking through this hole and finding its way to the bilge.Replaced the hose and the leak stopped.

Leaks

Brad, I have noticed several sources of small leaks on my boat. I have had problems with the chain plates leaking on my 25.5. They need to be caulked regularly. I have also noticed in some places on my boat where hunter skimped and did not put washers or caulking on some of the deck hardware fasteners, specifically the traveler (had no washers at all) and one of the fasteners on the port side jibs lead track had no washer or caulking and was leaking rain water. But if you're talking about leaks that require an automatic bilge pump, I think the only one I know of is the packing gland for my inboard. If you have an outboard, you really shouldn't need an automatic pump.

I have been sailing my 25.5 since I bought it in 1986 (New) the only leaks have had have been at the chain plates, Once a year I take up the little deck plate that is at the base of the chain plate, four screws hold it in, and caulk around the chain plate. Also you can take in water if you bury the bow back to the mast you may get water to pass between the pop top and the deck at the foward edge.

1/2 inch isn't a whole lot to get excited about

I have a 1977 H-25. Every now and then I have a little water in the bilge. It drove me nuts so I decided to try to figure out where it was coming from. Didn't seem to have a problem in winter with the rains after I placed a bucket under my instruments in the wall between the cabin and cockpit. I found that they weren't sealed properly and that they let enough water in during washing and rain to leave 1/2 inch in the bilge. I have had a few drips here and there in the winter but not enough to cause mold, mildew or much of anything in the bilge. Look for the obscure. I had no idea that my gauge and instrument holes were overdrilled and letting so much water in. Might want to do a thorough check of those items and caulk them up.
