I have a 1982 cat 30 with a universal 11hp.no coolant just water intake....a hose goes to water pump and one seems to go to a siphon under sink and back to engine.What is its purpose?

The fitting under the sink is likely a vented loop or siphon break they are the same. It is there to prevent water from siphoning into and filling the water lock and then backing up into the engine. It goes under the sink to get it above the waterline. Hope that helps.
thks for response,seems to me the 2 theories contradict each other,whom do I believe.it comes from the water intake valve,i do not understand why it is needed,more info would be so informative,thks all
