A very common leak point. Should you feel ambitious, replacing those screws with hex head screws will allow the use of a socket and ratchet to install or remove the hatches. This is not to be confused with putting a ton of force onto the threads, it simply makes the task far easier and allows an easy "feel" of about the same degree of tightness to each of them. You don't want to over tighten them, and the "goo" will be far more effective if there's consistent pressure across the whole plate.
