Water in the bilge

I have a 343, 2005. If I close all through hulls then no water. If I leave open the air conditioner through hole and run the air conditioner, salt water fills the bilge and it is coming from the two holes that are along side the engine mounts. The through hole is not leaking, the stuffing box is not leaking. The air conditioner lines do not appear to be leaking as the water is coming from under the stringer under the front engine mounts. As long as I don't turn on the air conditioner, I am okay. Driving me crazy.

I wouldn't rule out the AC just based on the location of the water you see. We had an anchor locker leak that tricked me into thinking the water was coming from somewhere in the back of the boat, just because of how it hid under the hull liner. What I've found is that any water runs under the liner toward the back, until we run down the aft water tank and the boat pitches forward, slowly bringing it up toward the bilge sump. Not sure if your model is the same but it's worth considering.

Davidasailor26. Thanks. I had not thought about the fact that on my boat as well there is a flight tilt to the aft and water could be under the pan. Now I am wonder how much water is under there. Maybe time to pull the boat and see how much water I can get out. If it was fresh water, I would not be so concerned but salt water...that bothers me. It is not much but still bothers me.

It could be just mineral free AC condensate washing down years of FL salt water mist or waves over the bow salt.
You can tell the difference with this test strip...
https://www.amazon.com/Aquachek-Whi...56&sr=8-1&keywords=saltwater+test+strips+pool

Put one strip in your bilge water and one in the marina water. Compare the two.
Sea Water will maximize the reading. Slightly salty water, like a salt water pool, will not.

I bought my boat from Punta Gorda 10 years of berthing. Oh My Gosh! I found dried salt crystal in my AC drain pan. The PO had let the AC return air suck in Punta Gorda air from the cockpit and not the cabin. The sealing panel was Missing:yikes:. So it its possible to have salty water in AC condensate too.

Where is your AC seawater strainer, and have you checked it. My OEM strainer was a flimsy plastic thing that had a tendency to seep water.

Not leaking there. Nor anywhere along the line/hoses. Ran it today for three hours, no water in the bilge. Maddening.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Maddening.
Remember even in FL humidity it make take overnight to condense enough water to show up.
or...
There is an undiscovered sea water drip when the unit gets to maximum cooling or maximum sea water heating to expand fittings on the water discharge line.
or...
It is something beside your AC.

Take heart, you have SBO covering your back...;)

Same boat but in fresh water - no AC.
1. Leaky panorama window, 2. incoming water when I clean speed transducer 3. if sink drains are open, water flows in when heeled over, then spills out when heeled on opposite tack. 4. who knows?
The bilge is so flat that a small amount of water will cover the entire bottom. The only means to remove is to pull up all floor panels and vacuum out with a shop vac. Water will slowly flow back in from hidden recesses to be vacuumed out again. Shift weight forward, back, side to side to get as much accessible as possible.
It really sucks.

My boat was in fresh water up until last year, but did not have this problem even with air condition on, however we did not run the air 24/7 in the summer either as we do now. I have the leaky panorama window too but only a small drips. My problems are occuring with the boat tied to the dock. A couple of times I have used the vacuum to get it all out and may have to resort to that again. I use to live in Oregon. Attended Portland State in the 1970's
