Water in rear storage areas

I also have water under the aft beds

That's where it is. Under queen size bed.
I will check the cockpit drain to see if it is the culprit, but I had never noticed the tops of the cushions getting wet.

I wintered on the trailer w/ the mast up and didn't do any type of cover. I know I have a small visible opening on the chainplate but didn't think it would be much of a concern. ha ha.

After a couple of months I had a significant amount of water visible through the seat storage compartments and the aft bed. All my cushions and interior items were stored at home. I cleaned everything up, vacuumed everything I could find and was getting ready for the season.

Came back after a good weekend of rain and there is water in the aft bed storage area again. Small amount visible through the seat storage areas. My boat's tongue is up pretty high so it might be pooling in the laz (didn't check yet).

In the aft storage under the beds, there is two possibly drain holes toward the back. There are up 1/2 inch or so from the bottom of the storage. I assume this is to let water out??? I was wondering if water was coming in from a full laz. This may have been my issue over the winter, but probably now my issue is the cockpit drain.

I have one 26D with holes and one without. I'm guessing the holes were a Po modification.
They both get water in them....
Not for long as I'm in the process of bedding everything with butyl!
It's safe to say that every piece of hardware that is attached to your MacGregor leaks! I can't have any leaks so I'm bedding everything. Here is a picture of the goop under the foot of the mast... It doesn't look like allot of attention was paid to how it was applied.
On the on boat there are holes from the laz into the bilge area on each side. Not so on the other without any holes.
I've included a picture of the railing on the 26D.
I think there is a chance of leaking through the holes that bolt the top to the hull. a slim chance but I think that water goes between the aluminium and the hull and can seep in around the bolt... There is some type of goop around the bolts on both of my boats. I'm not so sure it is doing it's job any more. I plan to run a bead of some type of calking around the top of the rub rail ware it meets the hull.
I just don't know what product to use yet.

Re: I also have water under the aft beds

So I did check and my laz/bildge was dry.

As I crawled back into the aft bed storage area I for sure can see some streaking of water along the port aft inside liner. So it is coming from the top, versus (or in addition too) pooling from other areas and running back.

I inspected the cockpit drain and as others said, pieces have chipped off and I assume water can get in through there. For now I put some tape on it to test via rain.

Next question, which probably deserves its own thread in general is what is the difference between all the 'application mediums' and which one should be used for what. Butyl tape, silicon, 4200?, caulk etc. I need to learn a lot about this stuff and how to fiberglass.

Butyl.
I found on my 26D the SS rail mounts leaking. And everything else that was screwed or bolted to the boat...
You get at the rail bolts from the covers in the rear bunk. You may have to cut a bit of Styrofoam. I did.

Great pics. So the picture w/ the drill, what is that bit? Are you just 'cleaning up' the old resin or are you digging into fiberglass?

So how long did it take for you to just deal with your SS rail? Trying to decide if I want to tackle this now or after the season. ;>)

The bit is a counter sinking bit. You don't have to go too far down. I aim for about a 1-2mm tapered face. IE: " \ " is 1-2mm from end to end. Not that angle though. A 45 is good.
I've just used a bigger drill bit in a pinch. Don't try that unless your a pro tough! You risk drilling the hole bigger!
Check mainsails links for how to do it properly. In comparison I'm kinda doing it quick and dirty like.
I found a couple new holes in my cabin top today... Check today's date in my rudder and DB thread about that...
I have no explanation for these...
