Water in interior light

I went down to my 23-2 Saturday after a week of rain (maybe 4" total), and discovered that my interior light over the port settee was full of water. As in, there was 3/8" of water standing in the light fixture lens. Obviously I have a deck/cabin leak. My first thought was the chain plate, which is about 8" away & has an old water repair, but everything looks dry there. No sign of water coming in around the port light on that side of the cabin either. Any ideas where else it could be coming in that would collect in this location?

Genoa track? Rub rail? Did you take the light off and look at the screw holes? Is there a fiberglass liner with a gap between the liner and the cabin top?

There is the liner with a gap. The rub rail & genoa track would have to run up hill.

I had a similar problem with one of my cabin lights. I rebeded everything in the area with butyl tape and it didn't help. Only took about three years to find that one of the light fixture mounting screws was longer than the others. Long enough to just penetrate the deck. Looked like a black dot on the outside but in heavy rain it let a drop every couple of minutes to enter the light. Don't need to use a winter tarp anymore.

On our previous boat I chased some drips and rebedded genoa track, chain plates, stancions, etc. I never found it even after having a deck repair done in that section. With 4" of rain water can travel quite a ways. Keep at it.

I have a Laguna 24 that the V berth light rusted out but couldn't find a leak. What I think happened is during cold weaher, condensation ran down the painted overhead and collected there. A heater used during the winter cured it.

The V berth in our prior Catalina always had a little water get in from the anchor locker. I had to remind myself not to dip the bow in oncoming waves when we were out. I found the wire chase along the toe rail inside the anchor locker was where it would sneak in. I plugged the wires with some plumbers putty and went back to romping down the waves.

I have a small bilge area, really 3 small bilge areas, on my 272 that get 2-4 inches of water in them when we launch... It always makes me nervous.
It is all condensation. Once I dry it, the bilge is dry all season.
I would buy the condensation theory.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really don't think it is condensation. Tropical depression 2/Bonnie should bring some rain this weekend, hopefully I can figure it out then.

Had a leak that filled the interior light too. Traced it down to a leaking seal on the lexan port light.

Yes, on the 28. The seal between the port and cabin was bad and allowed rain water to leak behind the port and run between the the cabin and liner. The water found its way to the cabin light. The lens would fill up when it rained and drip on the settee. I was glad to finally fix that. Find a helper to stand in the cabin and look at the port for leaks while someone runs a water hose around the port. That is how I found my leak.
