I have a 1975 Hunter 25 I getsome standing water in the cockpit and in a hard rain i get water from the hatch. The reason I discovered is because the boat is higher in the stern so it does not drain properly and the gutters run backwards. Can I add wieght in the stern with out effecting perfomance and safty to correc this?

Water

I have a 74 Hunter 25. The cockpit doesn't drain completely, but whats left is easily mopped up with a sponge. Water getting in at the lazerette hatch during heavy rains is to be expected. You might be able to use some foam weather stripping on the bottom side of the hatch to get a better seal.

Use a tarp

I have heard of and seen some owners who have made a small tarp from a material like sunbrella to place over their hatch while the boat is not in use. This serves to shed alot of water away from the hatchway helping to keep it dry.
