Hi, I am a new owner of a 1986 Cat 22. It does not rain very much in Colorado, however, last week has been raining a lot. There is water in the cabin now, under the cooler, on the bottom of the midship starboard undercushion storage. Where is that water coming from. It was totally dry until started raining.

You say midships, starboard side?

It's been awhile, but doesn't the Cat 22 have a drain hole for the slide out sink on the SB side?

I know the design had this drain connected to the 2 cockpit drains which then ran through that 'volcano' through hull. Sometimes these clogged up and the water would seep back up through the sink drain, soaking the cushions.

Maybe that's it. Otherwise it could be anything. Your windows could be leaking, the rain could be coming at the right angle to come through the vents in the stern (probably wouldn't actually reach the cabin...)

From the anchor locker or the gap in between the overhead slide where it meets the hatch boards. I know mine had a 1" or so gap at the top which allowed rain.

Again, if you're normally dry and had more than the average rain...things may 'look' worse than they are.

That sink drain was a headache for me. If the water stacks up in the cockpit, the pressure will sometimes push water up through the sink drain and into the cabin. I shut that valve off "permanently" as I had long since removed the slide in galley. Otherwise, as Team 118 has said, the windows leak or loose chainplate somewhere. Are your cushions wet on that side? If not, probably is the sink drain.

Thanks for the insight. The 86 does not have the slide out sink. I will check the drains. Cushions are dry. It has been in the water for about 2 months now and no water until we had a rainy week.

Not familiar with the 22 but have had alot of leaks. Eliminate the obvious, Stanchions, any cabin penetrations. Look for sublte driplines, leave peices of newspaper on suspect area. Get out a gardenhose and make it rain.
