Hi, All,

I have a small amount of water which comes into the bilge on my 2000 Beneteau 311. The water is in the bilge section adjacent to the galley which contains the galley sink through-hull, but the water isn't coming from that--it's coming through the weep tube which leads forward. None of the other bilge sections show any water at all, and I've even run an experiment in which I shut off the reefer and removed the fresh water tank, but the water is still there. The same amount of water always slowly trickles in: maybe 1/8". The water is salty. I see no evidence of water anywhere else, including the keelbolts. The water is definitely not coming from around the knot/depth transducers.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to where to look? It's a bit of a mystery to me.

Thanks,

Dan

It might not be salt water? One thing that leaks water at a slow quantity is the pressure/temp valve on the water heater. They seem to drip after a few years if they aren't exersized.

The water is coming from the tube which leads forward...isn't the water heater aft?

The water heater on a 361 is midship under the starboard bench. not sure where it is on the 311.

Almost Dy Bilge

I own a 331 and recently sailed it up to Canada from the Caribbean. I had lots of problems with water. One was the hot water heater which you have already ruled out, another was the prop shaft seal as well as the transducers. The hardest one to find was at the through hull at the galley. The water line is above the through hull which means the hose is always about 3/4 full of water. The problem I had was that it had a 1 1/2" fitting under the sink and the hose was 1 1/2",yet the pipe fitting on the through hull was only 1 1/4". The hose was kinked and filled with sealant. The leak was below the waterline, very slow and very hard to find. Like you I always had water in my bilge. Finally after ripping apart almost every thing on board I now have a much drier bilge(not quite totally dry). Good Luck! I feel your pain. At least most of my hoses are new now......:)

My new 323 had that same 1.25 fitting on 1.5 hose. Took it off and put a 1.5 fitting and new hose up to the drain.

My 281 is generally pretty dry, however, i get a few drips from the propshaft seal if ive been motoring, though it usually stays back near the engine unless there were a lot of waves.. and the water pump on the engine drips a little, again it usually stays under the engine unless there are waves.. Also, if the manifolds on the bilge pump under the bathroom sink are not all closed, water can make its way through the icebox drain, and exit through the shower drain.. As long as the manifolds are closed, the water stays in the icebox.
