Im trying to locate a link to no avail regarding a machine that makes water out ambient temperature. Its the size if and old office water cooler. Price is about $2000. Could you help locate it?
Thx

Should that be "takes" water out ? If that's the case, it's called a dehumidifier. Works like an AC unit but returns all of the waste heat back into the room. In fact, our mobile AC unit has a dehumidifier cycle on it.

Google "dehumidifier" and see an avalanche of units for under $500.00. Far cheaper than an AC unit because they are a simpler construction.

Watch out for outdoor temperatures. Dehumidifiers can produce extremely high temperatures in your hot weather. In that case, you may want an AC unit which will dump the waste heat outside. More expensive but nowhere near $2K.

Assuming your boat is in Tampa, the amount of moisture in the air during hot weather will far exceed the ability of a typical dehumidifier to help. And using a dehumidifier too large for the space only results in it freezing up. The best thing (and coincidentally the cheapest) is to ensure good ventilation.

a machine that makes water out ambient temperature.
As Ralph has ‘correctly stated’ water is in “humid” air. A dehumidifier sucks up the ambient air pushes it through an evaporator and water droplets fall out of the air into a tank.

Warm air can hold more water moisture (higher humidity) than cold air. A dehumidifier can get some water out of cold air, there is just not as much water in cold air. Less water is produced.

Are you going to try and use this condensate or just dump it off the ?

There are different designs for dehumidifiers. Some have pumps, others deposit the condensate into a bucket, still others allow you to attach a hose to the outflow tube and empty the water into a drain.

This seems yet another of those random questions where lots of people spend (read -waste) time trying to be helpful and the OP doesn’t even bother returning to read the comments. Why do we bother?

I know what you mean.

Perhaps creating a posted black list where, after a period of perhaps several weeks, if the OP does not acknowledge his original post in some way, his/her name will be hoisted up the flag pole and helpful posters can decide if it's worth replying to them.

I know there's a couple names in here which I've learned to avoid because they are less interested in solving their problems than we are.

There could be a couple of issues.
  • You are new at the use of a forum.
  • You get up the courage to post a query.
  • You have no idea what the others will think.
  • You get distracted by life.
  • This is your first experience and it takes a week or more to get back on line to the forum.
  • Then you find all sorts of responses what do you do now.

I do not think many of the first time posters have a clue how informed all of you guys are, nor the skill and talents that you possess.

All true, however, he has posted 93 times in the past.

Makes water out of what? The atmosphere like a dehumidifier?
Makes water out of humidity in the air, it has to be if im not wrong 75%average in order fir tbe nachine to capture it and make it

Sorry it has been hectic at work, im working 14 hrs a day get 2 hrs a day to prep a meal, cook it, do the dishes, take a shower(sometimes im so exhausted that screw the cooking, shower and go straight to my bunk and pass out.)yes this machine
Captures the humidity in the air and creates potable water. I marked the page of the website, but unfortunately it jyst disappeared ...
Thx for your feedback. You're not taken for granted. I do appreciate you all, your time and effort. By the wsy HAPPY THANKSGIVING. I hope you enjoy it. I wont be home, my time off request was ignored. . For that, ect ill be relocating and starting a new job hopefully soon. Thx again.

Is seem to recall a system that was touted as producing water out of air but after a short time it pretty much disappeared. I think it was kind of like the old "cold fusion" that had folks ranting about until no one could reproduce it....

The only systems I'm aware of that fall into the predictable/reliable corner are the dehumidifier type already mentioned above. They are not energy friendly compared to membrane desalination systems.

Are you living aboard your boat or are you a landlubber?

Collect Rain would be a start. Cooking with that rain is ok.

I think it all comes down to priorities. You'll either have to give up sleeping or eating :yikes:. Experiment with giving up one and then the other to see which one works best for you :yikes: :yikes: . Good luck.

But back to business. Without ever having owned either, looking at their respective principle of operation, I'm going to say that the condensing unit is going to be a real energy hog vs. a reverse osmosis (RO) unit comparing gallon to gallon of water. The RO unit would definitely require more maintenance than the condensing unit. My suggestions, if you are stuck on the condensing unit would be, in no particular order :

1. Look at a much bigger battery bank if going with the condensing unit. OR
2. Look at the smallest generator unit available rather than batteries. OR
3. Look at large solar panels. OR
4. Learn to drink, bathe, and do laundry in salt water.

The most important thing here will be a study in how much energy each of these beasts will consume on a gallon to gallon comparison..

And of course, the most important thing of all, how much water do you need each day in order to size your new equipment ?
