water hose pre-filters

As a new C350 owner, we want to maintain our water holding tanks in as pristine and clean a condition as possible. Surfing through the forum archives has been helpful for tips in this regard. Many have recommended pre-filtering the potable water that goes into the tank, as an initial step towards reducing contaminants. One thread mentioned that these systems are easily obtained at the usual chandleries; West Marine, etc. We did not see any archives specifically dealing with these devices per se; i.e. brand names, how to use, cost, etc. We have looked at the West Marine catalog without much further enlightenment. We would like a simple filtering device that attaches to the garden hose and simply filters the water as it goes into the tank. Any comments? Thanks, FM (C350, hull 34)

I have a water filter that go's on a garden hose and got it at home depot or rv store, it screws on hose very easy and easy to use.

We use an under sink filter for home use. It is set up with pipe nipples to attach to a hose with a hose shutoff between. Unfortunately, we think it filters out the chlorine, so we have to add some back if the water is just sitting in the tanks. We use it primarily for rural water on trips to Canada and upper Michigan. Not much need for it with city water. We don't drink much water from the tanks,either.

Water Quality

I flush the anti-freeze, refill and flush again. Then I fill and put a qt of bleach, non flavored or sented per 70 gallons of water. I let it slosh around for a day or so, flush, reflush and then fill. I then add a fifth of cheap bourbon to the tank, great coffe, chase the bleach smell, no bugs or any other things such as the black stuff in the lines etc. Been doing this for years and water is clean, clear and no smell or anything else.
