water holding tanks

I own a 1982 Catalina 30. There is a fresh water holding tank midships, starboard side and another one under the V-berth. My question(s) is
1. the starboard tank is filled from the outside. There is a hose at the bottom that I presume goes to the galley fawcet and the hot water tank. There is another hose near the top of this tank that I assume goes to the tank under the V-berth ( sort of an overflow I guess ) BUT where does the tank under the V-berth drain to ? Does it just kick in when the starboard tank is empty. I tried tracing the hose lines but they kind of disappear under various structures.

The attached image is from the catalina 30 manual (see the catalina 30 international site) the hoses from the top of your starboard tank are the vent hose and the tank fill.

On my 1989 C30 the bow tank will drain into the starboard tank if I leave the valve (located next to starboard tank) open. If there is little or no water missing from the starboard tank I only fill the bow tank. While filling the bow tank water runs downhill to the starboard tank. This is convient but the down side is that I need to occasionally run the starboard tank empty to avoid really old water sitting in it.
