HAVE RAW WATER COOLED ENGINE SO AC/ENGINE WATER HEATER NOT PRACTICAL. HAVE GAS HEATER MOUNTED ON WALL IN HEAD. RECEIVE COMPLAINTS FROM "CREW" THAT THIS IS A HEAD AND SHOULDER BANGER WHEN MOUNTING AND DIS-MOUNTING. ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO ALTERNATE HEATERS OR LOCATIONS FOR THIS HEATER. THIS IS "ON DEMAND" AND WORKS WELL BUT FOR THAT MENTIONED ABOVE.

behind the engine

We have a 6 gallon heater mounted just aft of the diesel engine that has its own breaker on the panel for livin' at the dock and also works moderately well from the heat exchanger after about 15 minutes of running the engine. It is attached to teh shurflo pump we mounted under the galley sink that distributes to that sink, the vanity sink and the shower. I only remember needing to punch the reset button once in the past ten years.

Typical Installation

Most of the H37's I've seen have the water heater installed as Yehudi mentioned. I believe that you could install your "on demand" unit aft of the engine as well as long as you could properly vent the exhaust. Do you have the original 6-gallon unit aft of the engine presently? If so, I am sure that there are other places to install the on demand unit like in the starboard lazerette, port quarter berth, or even the aft wall of the salon bulkhead. But if the heater is not there, aft of the engine be the logical choice. Or you could sacrifice a storage area like the hanging locker, but there are disadvantages in taking up space too. Good luck!

Shoulder (?) Room

I got rid of the 6-gallon unit behind the engine so I could mount the generator there, and I mounted a propane unit in the shower over the (useless) seat. No problemos with mounting & dismounting, just a bit of a compromise on the shoulder-room when bathing. Exhaust is directly to cabintop overhead. Sure works like a charm. By the way....we live at anchor and on a mooring, so electrical hot water is not an option.
