Shown in picture one is old water heater and it's existing connections.
The water heater is leaking pretty bad so I'm going to replace it .
Any comments about reusing old existining fittings.

Picture 2 shows new water heater and in the owner's manual it states

WARNING: Hoses MUST NOT contain carbon black- will void warranty.

After looking at water heater installation pictures on line it seems most are using black with green striped Muntipurpose water hose Malaysia.....

Only reuse fittings that work. I'd replace the PRV at the very least.

What's the white thingy?
Stu
Checked the 34 site seems I missed that one.

What's PRV ?

I think the white T thingy is a air bleeder valve.

Isn't your leg fixed yet?

the fitting are relatively inexpensive. I'd replace them all. Its an opportune time and you end up with tighter connections. Don't forget to use thread tape

I replaced the hoses from the engine to the water heater with the same size radiator hose that I bought from our local automobile parts store. I did this last year because the original hose was chaffing on an engine part. This year I had to replace my Seaward water heater because of leaking, and used the same hose that I replaced last year.

Carbon black in the cooling system? Not quite sure I understand how that gets into a closed cooling system.

PRV = pressure relief valve, the one with the little handle on it. If it gets too hot inside and builds up pressure, it opens. Once opened they rarely ever reseat because the opening is small and crud gets in there. If it hasn't ever operated, then reuse it, but don't play with it.

Air bleeder vale? For what? They only work on the HIGH end of pipe systems. See my How to Burp link in a recent post here on water heaters. Here's the link: http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=108979

Leg = bone is healed, still doing PT to learn to walk again. Went from walker to two crutches to one crutch to a cane. Slow goin'...but back out sailing single handed!
