I hope someone can give me some sound advice here. My Catalina is the 1988 Mark II model. My hot water heater was never replaced and never seemed to be a problem. While up on the boat today, when I ran the hot water at the galley faucet the AC breaker on the panel "popped". I pushed it back in and a few seconds later it "popped" again. I was not getting hot water at the faucet. My water tanks had plenty of water. Once I pulled the boats electrical panel cover off I noticed that the outer sheathing on the AC breaker wire was brittle and broken off, the exposed wire looked frayed up to three inches up from the connection to the breaker and burned.
I now have to evaluate if the issue is the breaker, if the black AC wire over time bent enough over the years from opening and closing the panel cover to weaken it (I doubt this) or I have a bad water heater? I did not inspect the water heater yet.
The Water Heater breaker was very hot to the touch! I will have to replace the wire from the water heater to the breaker, which could be a challenge, but how do I determine if its the water heater or the breaker? Electrical work has never been my greatest strength
Thanks
