This morning I went to check on the boat and found an unusual amount of water in the bilge. I found a drip coming from the hose connected between the engine and the water heater. It comes from the heat exchanger into the water heater. The leak appears to be coming from the plastic pipe extruding from the water heater that the hose attaches to. First I was surprised this was plastic. second, is there a way to replace just this part and not the entire water heater? In the meantime I have removed both intake and outflow hoses from the water heater and coupled them to bypass the water heater. any help would be great. the water heater is a Seaward Model 5600.

I Think So

My recollection from the Seward manual is that the heat exchanger can be serviced seperately. However, if the heater is over five years old, I'd tend to just replace it. The hassle in trying to service the unit and then having to replace it a few years later is worth considering. Rick D.
