There are inline metal valves on the anti-freeze line run to the hot water heater on my boat. The valves are frozen. I was wonder what the valves are for and should I replace them? Thanks Jim

that's a new one to me...

on my second Hunter here ('84 and '93) and haven't seen any valves (shutoff?) on the water heater hoses. Unless someone here has seen otherwise, this sounds like a prior owner modification to me. And those can sometimes cause more trouble than they are worth, IMHO. What boat/year do you have?

Are you sure you ...

...don't mean petcocks?? I have them on my boat. They are used to bleed air from the HWH. If the line gets airbound the exchange water will not flow and you will have no hot water.

Alan is right!

Bleed valves (petcocks) - not lukely Shut-off valves. You wouldn't be likely to service the HWT, while the engine is running (and circulating HW to the tank).

Don, I have a 1992 Hunter 28

They may be petcocks, I'm not sure what they are or what they are used for. I have seen them on other boats before. They don't turn and I don't know how they operate. I am planning on replacing the hoses and wondering what to do with them. Thanks again, Jim
