My new water heater tank just arrived. Following advice in the archives, I removed the old one by removing the 3 drawers. My new heater has the engine coolant connections on the front (starboard) side of the water heater while the old one was on the back (port side), so the coolant hoses are too short and need to be replaced. I've tried to follow the route of the two coolant hoses but i can't see where they end up at the engine. Anyone know where they connect? thanks

You should find them

Atop the engine. You should see a splitter with several hoses that run over to the heat exchanger and then these two hoses that will go down and inside and under the floor and disapear, (supply and return) that are one the top. It should be fairly easy to locate. If you are familiar with the location of the thermostat on the top of and in the front of the engine, you should have no problem locating them. Look at them, and see the kind of hose and look for identifying marks and then look for same size, color and identifying marks on hoses inside your engine compartment. They should be in the front of the engine on top. Good luck. Tie a pull string onto either end before you pull them out.

One will come from the 'Fresh Water' pump,

and the other will connect to the thermostat "before" the thermostat (after the thermostat is the expansion tank). They are probably 3/8" ID, but could be 1/4" ID then adapting to 3/8"ID to the water heater. I don't believe that it makes a difference at the water heater which side goes to what.

Just go to Ace Hardware and get two

5/8 inch hose couplers and a few extra feet of hose, and hook it up.
