Water from hot water heater smells

For some reason, lately the hot water smells like rotten eggs. How do you clean or flush a hot water heater/tank?

I recall some discussion on this subject which you should be able to search for in the archives. Basically, if you have disinfected all the lines, the most likely source of that smell is a bad anode in the tank and the only way to eliminate the smell is replace the anode. This presumes you are not just dealing with "stale" water in the tank(s).
