Water flodding anchor locker

I have a passage 42 (1992) and while it has not actually happened to me I have a concern about being underway in rough weather and having bow waves continually crashing on the bow and water getting in the chain locker because of a rather large opening to accommodate the below deck roller furling drum. With chain and rope for 2 anchors filling this space will the 2 small drain vents actually keep up with the flow coming thru the furling well or will water leak into the forward v-berth./ If I stuff a rag or something in the hole then I would risk fouling the furler drum

Here Is My Fix

I have the same concerns on my 42. I don't think you will get any leaks because the whole locker is molded in one piece. I don't think that the locker, completely full of water, would create any real problems for the boat. My concern is that the bottom drain is about six inches above the bottom of the locker???? Anyway, I put in a 12 volt outlet (with cover) in the anchor locker and put a small bilge pump in the bottom to drain the last six inches. I am also going to fabricate a false bottom from plywood so the pump does not get crushed by the chain. I would have been happy to have the furling drum out in the open. On top of these concerns, it also makes hooking the forestay to the boat a real chore.
