The Admiral loves it. We still do not drink the water but she uses it for most other purposes... washing, rinsing, brushing teeth...

Water filter

We use a shower filter right after the fresh water pump which has a strainer on the intake. It works well but still can't drink the water.

We have the same PUR filter, we filter and treat the water when filliing the tank. We drink it all the time without issue, tastes just fine. We always use the water on the boat excessively so the tank is filled everyother week at least. Where only frugal with the water when we're out on the hook for a few days.

Looks good Ed and seemingly very easy to maintain. As an option, here is what I did. Couple of inline filters from HD. They tell you when they need to be changed cause the water flow backs off a bit. We use it for cooking, coffee etc. Drinking not normally but if in a pinch....

Cheers

Given that pleasing the Admiral makes for a better boating experience for the "captain".....
and given the age of your boat....

I would suggest adding a clean-out port to the tank and replacing the ancient supply tubing. The tubing is cheap, altho on most boats the labor to pull the new tubing through the nether regions of your boat will be curse-inducing. :cussing:

Then you can drink the water -- with impunity, or, with rum.

Been there and Done that. Actually, we are both very happy to have clean tap water just like we take for granted at home.

Thru the year, if the the tank is not used at least once a month, I clean it out and finish up with a quick wipe up with a tea towel (Costco.... bundles are cheap.) with some bleach and water on that towel. For a "port" we have a Beckson 6" spin-out access port between each baffle.

Anyhow, while the filter is a great way to get rid of the more-visible little plant life, it's really nice to know that the tank actually has clean and clear water in it, in the first place.

... Just another "winter project" to keep you busy and out of the taverns and off the golf courses!
:)

Midnight Sun is 35 years old and the water is fine. We add a capful of bleach to each tank when filling. We rarely get even a hint of chlorine. I added a pur filter last year wondering if it would change anything, but nothing was noticible except that the water volumn was cut in half. Removed it shortly thereafter.

Yes, adding clean-out port(s) is a project I will do when we retire and are able to sail more often and on longer trips.

Yes, that is a good idea...but I don't want to damage the pump... When we first bought this boat I attacked the bilge with clorox and then had to buy a new bilge pump.
