Ok...I think I've got the problem resolved. I found a trickle coming from the front hatch, but I think the majority of the water was coming in from the seal of the hatch. I've learned to keep the bow of the trailer all the way down and the anchor locker drain unplugged. We had several inches of rain the past 36 hours and the boat stayed dry (spent about two hours inside during the down pour). I'm going to work to put a secondary seal on the hatch. Got some ideas. Once I get it worked out, I'll post pictures.

I also got all the water out from underneath the sole. I couldn't get a hose through any of the places suggested. So, I raised the trailer stand all the way up (bow high). Using a oil transfer pump (just a bottle pump I had around that I used to transfer oil into my old truck's differential) I was able to run the hose through to forward starboard hatch in the aft bunk area. The hose went over the structural beam about four inches forward of the hatch. I pulled about 2 gals out of the area. Anyways, the sole doesn't squish anymore.

If anybody needs more detailed information, or pictures, let me know and I'll post them.

Deucer,
A lot of good tips in this thread. Heres some easy ones that dried my boat.

Bulkhead mounted compass.... this is where most of my water came in because of bad seal. Funnels it right into the boat.

All bimini attachments were put on with no sealant.

Cock-pit locker hinges needed resealing under screws.

Seahood hinges needed resealing under screws.

Good luck!

Dennis,

Good tips. I'll check. We hope to put her in the water Saturday, so we'll see if I can keep the water out. Was driving me CRAZY before. Some day's we'd sail and I'd have water and some days it wouldn't. Never thought it was rain, not seawater. Having her on the hard for year proved otherwise.

I can't say how much I appreciate this forum. There's a ton if information about your boat here that would cost you a fortune in coin and labor, if you had to learn it all by yourself.

One of the places I get rain water coming in is my lazarette hatch. I have slowed down that leak with some weather stripping but I need to find a better fit. I also get water coming in at the point where my deck sits on my hull. I guess they call it a "shoebox" fitting. When I pour water over the "shoebox" seam, it runs into my cockpit locker. I believe it comes in at my rub rail and works it way through that joint. Eventually it works its way under my cabin sole. Check further postings for a guy named Major, I think. He fixed his leak there but it is an off season project. Still love this boat even if she is a little wet.

Ok, an update. Finally got the boat in the water and sailed it on Monday (Labor Day). After 24 hours in the slip, bilge dry. Two hours of sail yielded 1 1/2 gals in the bilge. Closer examination makes me think I've got a leak in the knotmeter paddlewheel. I dried out the bilge and will confirm on next sail.

Try drying the bilge and sprinkling baby powder around suspect areas. Check them often to get a clue before it overwhelms the bilge. My boat goes back in on the 30th and your making me nervous with all this talk of leaks;)

At the risk of reviving a dead thread and a bad idea (IMHO) I stumbled across a pic of the tank lid access port and drain pump that somebody had mentioned above.

Do with it as you wish.
