.... probably has them but you might also want to do what Walt and I and others have done and....

..... plumb it so that if you want to blow the ballast water out that it is easier. I did it also to raise the water level with the plug out since we sit down in the water further than most, if not all, S and D's,

No, just put a screw-in plug in it or an extension that necks up or down to work better with your 12 air pump.

I used JB weld to put the plug in and then added another layer after what you see in the bottom picture,

I've also done a similar fitting,

I think I used a threaded male pipe cut the threads, then used epoxy.

Walt has a larger opening due to some gov't hot water flushing for zebra mussels in CO.... (IIRC)

MOST of us are fine with the original plug setup. It's simple and it works. I keep a spare that I have never had to use. I think even WalMart has them. If you think you will need to blow the ballast then consider the modified attachment.

I agree, if I was the OP I'd just get the plug and use it and see if down the line he wanted something else.

We carry the 12 volt pump as we use it on the inflatable but have never had the need so far to 'blow' the ballast.

Our problem is sitting in the water lower with everything we have done and that we carry on trips meant that if the vent leaks at all we have water leaking out of that. With a light boat the waterline is about where the vent is so no real pressure that it has to seal.

So buy the plug and buy the boat and have fun,

Oh yeah,

tie it to the threaded valve. easy to drop into the inner hull, hard to get out.
