Water ballast ansd salt water

I'd like inout from water ballast boat owners. I polan to launch in the spring and haul out in the fall. I'm not sure I want salt water inthe ballst all summer. I'm open to suggestions. Can I fill it with frresh water from a hose and add bleach to avoid growth(s) and odors?Will saltwater be okay with an additive? If so, what additive?Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!!!!!

i use my 23.5 exclusivley in salt waterand i use salt water in my ballast tanknever had a problem as far as additives go you dont need them either stuff only grows with sunlight None availible inside tank. ive had no troubles with odors either. if using tap water with bleach is what you want to do go for it.the boat wil be somewhat unstable till you get the water in the tank though
