I have a 1969 E30 hull #169. I have been looking for the "waste" outlet/inlet on the deck. Am I wrong to think there is one for this yr? And if there is, where is it? I have "fuel" in my cockpit but thats it. I have been using a porta poti due to a direct feed to the water. Anyone know how many tanks are in the 69 30' ers and where are they? I found one in the V berth but thats it so far. I'm going to pull litteraly everything out of the boat next weekend (36yrs worth of stuff) and see what I have going on. If there isnt a tank for the head, how do I put one in and is there a good diagram I should use? Sorry for so many questions, but a 4-5 day trip down the CA coast to Catalina isnt all that fun on a porta poti!! Thanks in advance.

waste

A boat of that vintage only had overboard discharge, since it wasn't prohibited at the time of construction, so there wouldn't be a waste outlet on deck. Diagrams abound for what a head system should look like -- I know of one in the West Marine catalog, and I bet there's one in Nigel Calders Boatowner's Mechanical/Electrical book. They can be as complex or simple as you can tolerate. However, if you are heading down the coast, once you are outside of 3 miles you can discharge overboard, so your trip shouldn't present a problem.

Boat didn't originally have a tank, but

At least one of the POs should have retrofitted one sometime in the last 20 years, 'cuz that's how long it's been required in So-Cal. So there may be a tank, but one that can only be emptied by dumping at sea...no pumpout fitting. Or, the boat may have been illegal all these years...you'd be amazed at the number of boats that still are. So you're just gonna have to find the tank, if there is one. Otherwise, you'll have to install one. There's been a lot of discussion here about how to do it, so search the archives...you'll also find the link below to be helpful.

waste....

Thank you very much for the information. after further review of my boat this past weekend, there is NO tank. I am wire shutting the valve to the direct dump and just using the porta poti. May be cheaper in the long run and when I do head down the coast, the existing unit may be fine. thanks again for the advice. Dan
