There is a move afoot to evict all of the liveaboard boaters from marinas on state land in Washington state. (FYI, this is just about all of them!). The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is requiring marinas to evict liveaboard boaters in order to renew the annual lease which allows the marinas to use the water for moorage. There is apparently a new and dubvious "interpretation" of state law which allows for this. The first people effected are those in marinas on Lake Union in Seattle, but they will not be the last. There is a rally at Gas Works Park on Lake Union this Friday, 4/14, at 7pm. However, equally effective would be a nice email or letter to your state representative, or perhaps the Gov. Locke. I'll try to find that info, but if anyone has it please post it here. Don't feel removed from the problem because you don't live outside WA. This absurd movement against liveaboards is spreading across the US and one more state which outlaws it only helps your local legislators support their arguments.

I checked with the Port of Everett last week. They said that the Port owned the land. From what I first heard the only other place that was covered was a couple places in Tacoma. I don't thing the reason they gave was a very good one. On Crusing Worlds BBS they were talking about this. What about the people that have cabins on state land? I won't be able to get to Seattle but I will send a few e-mail out.
