I have a 2007 Hunter-36 and want to fresh up all the covers on the vee berth, rear berth mattresses and also saloon.
What do you do cleaning do you unzip them off and wash in the washer or not a good idea.
My boat is only 2 years old but would like to clean them up the best way.

Not sure if taking them off and washing is a good idea - I would worry about shrinkage. We recently cleaned our cushions by renting a steam cleaner like you use for carpet but use the uphostery attachment. It works pretty well and you don't have to take them apart.

Nick,
We took the cover off the aft cabin mattress last winter and had it dry cleaned. Also took the foam mattress off the boat to let it air out. Smelled and felt very fresh last spring, but it didn't take long to re-absorb that diesel fuel smell. We took the V-beth cover off this year and will get it dry cleaned.

If they are small enough

You can take the foam to the bath tub and wash it then put it in the washer and put it on spin. Does a great job getting all the water out quickly. otherwise just air dry the foam.
You can also wash in cold water and air dry the covers. The shrink in the dryer not the washer.

Done

Well I took the covers off the foam and my wife washed one at a time in cold water and no dryer just hung them in the screened in porch on warm sunny day and air dryed.
All dry and put them back on foam no trouble and looking look and smell fresh, mine were only 2 years old and no reall smelly diesel just boat humid mold smell but so much better now and freshy smelling good.
