For four, or whatever, decades he has been making movies and films on snow skiing.
Not many people knew that he loved to sail.

He had an understated humor, had a voice that was mesmerizing, and managed to stay relevant over three generations.

Some of Warren Miller Quotes:
  • “I won't ruin a good story with the absolute truth.”
  • “Never tell a lie, because you don't have a good enough memory.”
  • “Always try everything at least twice.”
  • “Freedom is located somewhere outside the box.”

When sailing and at the helm alone in a descent seaway across wave trains, I often feel like like I'm in a Warren Miller movie cutting across terrain (or some moguls ;^))) )

If you're not immediately familiar or don't recall his voice, you can look him up on the web and get countless examples of his work over the years.

I would watch his ski films in the warming huts in CO. Makes sense he would love other outdoor sports. RIP Warren.

A few weeks ago I was on the phone with my son as he was driving somewhere and he was wondering why the flags were at half mast. He lives in Minturn, Co just outside of Vail. I didn't have an answer until I saw news later that day about Warren Miller's death. I sent a text to him saying "half-mast flags for Warren Miller's death, no doubt."
He means that much to skiing and skiers for sure. He's featured at the beginning of a documentary sk film that goes by the title "Swift Silent Deep" the story of JHAF and his commentary is particularly incisive. If anybody wants to know about ski culture in the mountains, Warren Miller was on the cutting edge for multiple generations.
