Warp Speed line for furler

On my last boat a rigger recommended what I believe was Warp Speed line for my furler. It was a hard, round line that was less prone to jamming. I believe it had a Dyneema core. Does this sound like warp speed?

Dyneema is a trade name - but yes warp speed had a HMWPE core with a polyester cover. Would make a good furler line.

I've had warp speed for halyards and I'm not really a fan. I don't have any on my boat now. It's too stiff in my opinion. I wouldn't like it for a furler for that reason. It's also not easy on the hands. I thought it kinked pretty easily, too. If you already have it, let us know your experience. I originally bought it for its performance specs.

I've not had warp speed specifically, but it's equivalent in other brands so no direct experience with that specific brand. I've never had kinking issues with them the larger diameter lines I agree are kind of stiff. But down at the diameter needed for a furling line, doesn't seem to be the same. I currently run just straight HMWPE (Dyneema) line for my staysail furler - quote like it...

I have 4 products on my boat: New England Endura & Viper and Sampson MLX3 & XLS3. My favorite is Endura. It was the most expensive when I bought it and New England describes it as Dyneema core/poly cover. It has the best feel and lay in my hands. Specifications say it's the better of the others I bought, but I would never be able to really discern the difference. I only bought a small amount to use on my mainsheet traveler. I bought Viper for halyards & MLX3 for sheets. I'm not as impressed with the Viper, but mainly because I bought larger diameter than I think i should have. It simply takes up a lot of space in the boat because most of it is coiled in the cockpit when sailing (I wish I bought just enough to coil at the mast for the genoa halyard since I never even touch it). It would have helped if I bought smaller diamenter and I'm sure the loads would not have exceeded the specs. It also seems to kink more easily and maybe that's a result of buying higher diameter. Interesting that New England discerns in their literature between Dyneema (Endura) and HMPE (Viper).

I like the MLX3 (also HMPE core) for sheets and find it has an excellent feel and grip on the winches. The XLS3 is excellent for non-critical control lines.

My understanding of dyneema vs HMPE is that dyneema is a higher grade of HMPE. It was basically described as "all dyneema is HMPE, but not all HMPE is dyneema. There must be various grades of HMPE, thus the price differences.

I haven't replaced my furler line. I think it is a poly core/poly cover line. I would absolutely exchange it for a line with HMPE or Dyneema core due to the potential loads when under a stressful situation and to keep the diameter as small as possible. The only question would be which product. I'm pretty certain that I would choose the New England Endura over the Sampson WarpSpeed (having experience with both). I could also see using 12-strand Dyneema rope such as Endura 12.

Thank you both for the info. My last boat had an issue with the furler line jamming and I'm experiencing similar issues now. Instead of the line going on top of the previously spooled layer, it jams in between the lines of the previous layer. Switching to the HMWPE cored line helped. It's also piling up on the top half of the spool and jamming against the housing. The line is 1/4" so I suspect someone swapped it out when a genoa was installed to keep it from overfilling the spool. Contrary to advice I was given, I've found that moving the fairlead closer to the furler helps it wind up better

I didn't have any memorable kinking issues with the 1/4" or so Warpspeed.

@Scott T-Bird Would you recommend the Endura over the others for a furler?
