I own a 1998 H240. While sailing in about 15 knts of wind two days ago, the pin/bolt that holds the Schaeffer bottom schackel of the main sheet block to the deck broke/snapped. That in itself is not my concern, but since this is the same equipment that is used to raise and lower the mast has me concerned. If this failure occured while raising or lowering the mast it could be very dangerous and damagiing. I plan to use the main halyard attached to someplace secure as a back-up from now on as a safety feature in case this happens. I suggest other H240 and H260 owners with the same

I agree. I have a spinaker halyard that is set up and not used. I never felt comfortable with just the furling jib (pins etc) maintaining the mast, so I attached the halyard to the bow rail as an added backup. I think now, I'll also have it attached when raising & lowering the mast.
Thanks for the info.

I replace the fore stay clevis pin every spring. Never occured to have the swivel pin changed on the mainsheet snap shackle - on my list from now on. Thanks for the heads up.
