Catalina 320 Dana Point
Temple Bar or the Overton Arm of Lake Mead,

might snow there today, but supposed to be up to 80 by this weekend. Head South on IS 15 till the only white on the ground is sand.

Phil, Define "near". Nothing warm is near

Vail at this time of year. I drove across Colorado in 1961 and it took two days.

warm is relative

but there is a lake just north of Colorado Springs called Monument Lake. Largest lake that I know of in CO (but I haven't lived there for 30 years).

Pueblo?

Lake Pueblo "ain't warm" - but it is a 12 month a year lake. If your boat is big enough, keel or water ballast so that a swim is not likely, then you can sail there. If a small centerboarder or beach cat - then the water is too cold to risk a capsize. Due to cold water - you might consider harness and tether for Pueblo, and not go alone. Else: California, Arizona (Roosevelt or Pleasant), or Texas seem to be the only real "warm" bets. California, here I come - two more weeks and 4 days on the water :) . Cheers, OldCat

other options

There is a lake near Granby, CO that looks like a good size but I bet it's very cold now. Farther south there is lake Meridith in Texas just north of Amarillo which is approx 400-500 miles away that is a good size but it may be deep and the deeper, the colder the water.

Franklin . . .

Franklin - no way a mountain lake is going to work for quite a few weeks, maybe not until May. The Dillon Marina has a web cam - Granby will be similar. Here is the link (at bottom of their home page): http://www.dillonmarina.com/ Nobody is sailing there unless they have an icebreaker! I have not heard good things about Lake Mead winds, so I stick with my recomendation: CA, AZ, TX. AZ might be the best from Vail - 2 day drive, 5 days to sail and two days home. A link below will give conditions for Colorado lakes that are in the state parks system. OldCat
