Macgregor 25 Georgian Bay On Canada
We are looking at taking our Mac 25 to Florida this spring, we want to toss it in the bay in Destin, and sail around in it, stay on it etc, we have 3 questions, 1: getting the boat 2 and from Canada/US border? if we have our paperwork should not be an issue right? and 2: what do we need to do when going from freshwater to salt.... 3: has anyone done this before (sailed in the destin area) ideas of transient dockage?? Spoty

You'll Pass Your Neighbors On their Way Home

To start with order one of these: http://research.myfwc.com/products/product_info.asp?id=1323 You are probably better off staying in Fort Walton and launching the boat a Liza Jackson Park. (George will tell you about this one) Or there is a Hampton in on Rocky Bayou close to the Blue Water Bay are that you can get the boat up close enough to walk ashore right in back of the motel that would work well. Holler when you get closer to the trip and where you'll be staying etc.

Destin

I have no knowledge of ramps in this area, but I am familiar with the area. You will love the sailing, and the water around Destin. With the 25 you will have no problems with the bridges, so you can go just about anywhere you want to go, with the choice of offshore or the ditch. Good bay sailing all around. You will be meeting many boats going the other way in the spring.

Rick, I think we snooped around your club a couple years ago. Beautiful area. Spoty will really enjoy the sailing there. We'll be back down in August. Is West Marine still in Ft Walton?

Fellow trailer sailors from Canada

Go to the Catalina 25 Association forum and read the threads written by a couple that loaded their Catalina 250 Water Ballast in British Columbia and took it to Florida by way of San Diego and returned by way of Toronto and the Severn Waterway. They documented their travels well on that forum. They may be able to give some good advice.
